Perthshire can offer visiting golfers the very best of Scottish golf. Choose from idyllic parkland settings, heathland courses, highland layouts with breathtaking scenery and many "hidden gems" located in the area.
You'll find some of these "hidden gem" courses if you base your holiday in the beautiful and historic town of Dunkeld.
The Historic Town of Dunkeld.
Dunkeld is perfectly positioned, 12 miles from the city of Perth and only one hour drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.
Dunkeld has it's own spectacular golf course recently upgraded from 9 holes to 18. This golf course is a true "hidden gem" that most will have never heard of. It's not a long course but some of the holes just have to be played to be believed. These holes are shaped out of the natural landscape and standing on the tee you will wonder what you let yourself in for!
Dunkeld Golf Course
From Dunkeld, you can take the short drive, about 10 miles to Pitlochry. Pitlochry is known the world over as "The Gateway To the Highlands" with it's abundance of shops, pubs, restaurants and historical sites. For golfers the Pitlochtry course is another one that has to be played to be believed. It is quite hilly, but once you get over the first 4 holes you are literally on top of the World. The views down the valley are quite astonishing. In fact, I played there once and two RAF fighter planes came up the valley. Would you believe I could look DOWN on them.
The third, "hidden gem" course in the area is Taymouth Castle. Just 10 miles or so from your base in Dunkeld you'll find the little village of Kenmore that sits right on the mouth of the River Tay and on the edge of Loch Tay. It's a beautiful little village that is well worth exploring for an hour or two. The golf course is the the grounds of Taymouth Castle. A property that may be undergoing renovation shortly to make it into a seven star hotel.

The Village of Kenmore and Taymouth Castle Golf Club
The parkland course is not very hilly but offers a magnificent challenge to any golfer. With beautiful views and carefully crafted holes.
These are the three great unknown courses in the area but from Dunkeld it's only a short drive to the more famous Scottish Golf Courses, like Carnoustie, Blairgowrie, Gleneagles or even St Andrews.
We think Dunkeld is the ideal base for a relaxing Scottish golfing holiday and if you would us to help you book a short stay please contact us via or web site at http://www.scotlandgolfbreaks.co.uk/ . In fact we are based in Dunkeld so we are right on the doorstep to make sure you have an enjoyable holiday.
